Finally! The SoBro Greek’s Pizzeria opened at 49th & College opened on May 20. I’d been waiting a while for this. Also, it seems like whenever a Greek’s Pizzeria opens near my house, it closes soon after. There have been two attempts in Broad Ripple and one attempt downtown, all of which failed. I was excited when one opened at 71st & Binford in March 2016. This one at 49th & College features a taproom up above. The dining area, which is really nice inside, is open until 9:00 p.m. with the taproom usually open until 11:00 p.m. or midnight. The dining area is surprisingly spacious, and it’s nicely lit. I didn’t find it too bright or too dim. It also seemed to be very clean. Our waitress was always kind enough to check back with us for drink refills and plate removal. Of course, it helped that she was in constant view of us.

This Greek’s also had sauce options, which is something I’m completely unfamiliar with. Our waitress wasn’t sure what other options there were for sauces, so I’ll have to check that out on my next visit. Oh well. The basic sauce is good enough. It’s rich and sweet, but it still tastes like pizza sauce. As always, I love the cheese and ham at Greek’s. The cheese is chewy and flavorful, but it doesn’t stretch to infinity. And the ham is juicy and not spicy, unlike most other pizza places where I’ve eaten. It’s nice having a Greek’s close to me with their delicious pizza. I’ll definitely be back for more and I hope this location sticks around for quite some time!

Broad Ripple Greek’s closed…AGAIN July 20, 2015

I last went to the Broad Ripple Greek’s Pizzeria on June 17 to eat in for dinner. They were closing early without telling anyone and when we came in, they pretty much said they were only doing takeout- no eat-in or delivery. told us we could eat our pizza outside and get refills for as long as they were open. That worried me. Sure enough, when I went back a month later to take some friends there for dinner, they were closed. The “Greek’s Pizzeria” sign was gone and a “for lease” sign took its place. I get the feeling Greek’s just cannot survive in Broad Ripple, no matter how hard they try. I remember they had their first location off 64th street from summer 2009 to March 30, 2011, and then they finally came back to Broad Ripple just down the street at Guilford & Westfield in the former Ben & Jerry’s in the summer of 2012. They had a good three-year run there. I went back home and noticed that the Broad Ripple location was off their website, and their Facebook page was deleted. Greek’s still has locations in Carmel, Zionsville, Noblesville, Fishers, and the South Side of Indy, but none of those are close to me and Broad Ripple was. I’m going to miss that place. The more I read IBJ, the more I realize that I don’t like “fine dining establishments”; I prefer casual, cheap restaurants- usually buffets! Here are my top 10 favorite restaurants in descending order.

1. Sapporo
82nd Street in Castleton
NORTH side

2. Super China Buffet
71st & Keystone
NORTH side

3. Ponderosa
Emerson & Thompson
SOUTH side

4. Greek’s Pizzeria
Emerson & Stop 11
SOUTH side

5. Teppanyaki
9701 E. Washington St.
EAST side

6. Ryan’s Steakhouse
655 N. Shadeland Ave.
EAST side

7. Perkins
82nd & Allisonville
NORTH side

8. Red Lobster
82nd Street & Center Run Drive- Castleton
NORTH side

9. Weber Grill
10 N. Illinois Street

10. Golden Corral
7910 N. Shadeland Ave.
NORTH side

Of note:

*I know Sapporo and Weber Grill can be kinda pricey, and so can Red Lobster. They each have signature dishes that “WOW” me when most fancy places don’t.

*Honorable mention to Happy Garden (56th & Emerson; NORTH side) and Old Country Buffet (4200 S. East Street; SOUTH side), who both closed in 2012. You will be missed.

*The final tally is EAST: 2, SOUTH: 2, NORTH: 5, and DOWNTOWN: 1. West side, you lose. You got nothing!

24th Birthday event ideas December 4, 2012

Hey people!

OK, so this isn’t for almost 4 months, but I’ve started thinking up ideas for by 24th Birthday Event. I figure that while it may be early to plan the event, it’s not too early to think up ideas. Typically, there’s an activity followed by dinner at a restaurant. Two of my friends had good ideas- Sky Zone (a trampoline place) and Super China Buffet (my 2nd favorite restaurant), but those two aren’t close to each other. For my 21st Birthday, my friends and I went to Woodland Bowl and Tomo. For my 22nd Birthday, we went to X-Site and Perkins. For my 23rd Birthday, we went to Climb Time and Greek’s Pizzeria. So I ask: what are some good activities and restaurants in Indy to do for my 24th Birthday that I haven’t done yet? (No bars, please.)

I went downtown yesterday (Jan. 17) to Circle Centre Mall. I was going to eat at Asian Chao and Frullati in the food court on level 3, but then I remembered the downtown Greek’s Pizzeria had recently opened. I’d been missing it since the Broad Ripple location closed (on my birthday, no less), and while the South side one was still around, it was across town. Downtown was significantly closer. I walked to 15 N. Pennsylvania St., noticing how small the building was. I walked right in and noticed that, while small, it made efficient use of all the space and was very clean. The lady at the counter was very polite and professional and took my order for a medium mushroom and ham pizza, which was $13.47. I ate it on the way home and it was delicious! I highly recommend this location, especially if you don’t live close to the Emerson Ave. & Stop 11 Rd. location and have been missing this pizza since their Broad Ripple location’s closing!

Found something online that made me VERY excited!

They’re opening a Greek’s Pizzeria in downtown Indianapolis! SWEET!!!!! Now I don’t have to drive down to the South Side to get my favorite pizza, and I also FINALLY get something back that Broad Ripple took from me! The new location will be at 15 North Pennsylvania Street. The link says “coming soon”, but so far, no opening date has been announced.

Greek’s Pizzeria @ Southside Indy August 19, 2011

I really enjoy going to Greek’s Pizzeria. One of my friends who goes to Ball State first introduced it to me in 2009 when I visited her at school. Later that year, my friends and I heard that they’d opened a location in Indianapolis in Broad Ripple, which is 10 minutes from my house. We went there until it surprisingly closed in 2011…like most things I like in Broad Ripple, sadly enough.

Broad Ripple Greek's in its prime.

Luckily, there’s still a location in Indy! (And I mean Indy proper, not Fishers or Noblesville!) And quite frankly, since I’m on the north side but south of Broad Ripple, it’s easier for me to go to this location than to go to the ones in Fishers or Noblesville. It’s at 8028 South Emerson Avenue on Indy’s South side. The only thing I would caution anyone driving down here about is the highly dangerous intersection at Emerson & Southport, mainly due to its single-lane capacity leading up to a major shopping center and numerous turn lanes that make stop lights take forever.

R.I.P., Greek's in Broad Ripple.

The people there are very nice and helpful, as well as prompt and attentive. I’ve never had to wait more than 10 minutes to ask for a drink refill. In fact, I’ve never had to ask- they usually notice and refill it right away! And as far as the pizza itself, what makes this pizza special is the sweet tomato sauce (as opposed to the acidic, spicy, or tangy taste), as well as the rich cheese that doesn’t stretch indefinitely and the bread that is soft and chewy (as opposed to hard and crunchy). One more feature of this place is the ham.  Their ham tastes just like the ham you’d find on a subway sandwich- rich, thick, soft, chewy, and tasty, as opposed to the crispy and spicy ham other places offer.

The last surviving Greek's- located on Indy's south side!

I just wished they’d do stuffed crust like Pizza Hut. It’d give them an opportunity to further showcase that delicious, non-strechy cheese! Like most pizzas though, it’s greasy. Just a heads up if you’re on a diet or trying to avoid excess grease.

That aside, it is THE most delicious pizza I’ve ever found and worth driving across town for. If you live south of Broad Ripple like I do, then this location is probably closer than those due north of Indy. I highly recommend going to this location for convenience, service, and delicious pizza.
