OK so tonight I went to Ponderosa with Kate, Lauren, Val, and Stacia for a much-needed night out. Ponderosa is my favorite non-Asian restaurant and 4th favorite restaurant overall and I LOVE the food there…SO amazing. Better than Golden Corral and barely better than Ryan’s Steakhouse.

I prefer the mashed potatoes at Ponderosa to those at Golden Corral anyday.

I always want to go there with my friends, but because Ponderosa is on the south side, and all but 2 of my friends live on the north side, I rarely do. This year, though, I’ve had some success. I took Kate and Val there in January for takeout, I took Bridget and Ebony there in April for dinner, and I took Ben there in July for dinner. Kate and Lauren came to my house for a ride to my house around 6:30 and we headed across town to Indy’s only remaining Ponderosa at Emerson & Thompson.

My plate of food. It has mashed potatoes, steamed carrots, meatloaf, pasta noodles, and beef & noodles.

We got there at 6:50 and had to wait in a REALLY long line that went to the entrance. The place was packed, moreso than I’d EVER seen it since October 2010, when I started eating there. I paid $13.39 for a buffet and drink. Our party of five had to sit in the back room because there weren’t any remaining tables in the front room. It was my first time eating in the back room. The very nice, courteous, prompt, and attentive waitress took our drink orders (I had a Mug Root Beer) and we all got food. I got mashed potatoes, meatloaf, pasta noodles in tomato sauce, steamed carrots, popcorn shrimp, and (my personal favorite dish at Ponderosa) beef & noodles. In fact, I had THREE plates and barely got full!

Beef & noodles. My FAVORITE Ponderosa entree!

The food was delicious and I had a cone of vanilla ice cream before I left, which was nice, but wasn’t quite as good as Maggie Moo’s or Dairy Queen, but, as I told Val, I already paid for Ponderosa, so I’ll get it from Ponderosa. Now, the thing about Ponderosa is that the food varies from location to location and state to state, unlike Golden Corral. For example, the Ponderosa in Cincinnati only had (of the things I got) mashed potatoes and steamed carrots, and the food there was blander and $1 more…oh, and NO root beer! Also, the Cincinnati Ponderosa charges for takeout by pound…THIS Ponderosa just charges a flat rate of $9 per box.
